Google honors Fatima Surayya Bajia on 88th birthday with doodle

Internet’s giant Google is paying tribute to Pakistan’s renowned Urdu novelist and playwright Fatima Surayya Bajia, with a doodle on her 88th birthday, which falls on September 1.

Google often honors notable personalities and events with special logos called ‘Doodles’, which can be accessed here.

Surayya Bajia was born in Indian city of Hyderabad on September 1, 1930. She have written nearly 300 plays, focusing particularly on women, children, history and culture. She did not have a formal education but had learned extensive knowledge of Arabic, Persian, English and Urdu literature and history at home through.

Karnataka-born Pakistani playwright Fatima Surayya Bajia took up the all responsibility of looking after her younger siblings after her grand father death.

Her multi-talented brother Anwar Maqsood is a famous satirist and playwright, her sister Zehra Nigah is a renowned poetess while another sister Zubaida Tariq turned into a cooking expert and got fame.

Surayya Bajia was honored with many awards, including the Pride of Performance Award for her services to the performing arts in Pakistan. In 2012, she was awarded Hilal-i-Imtiaz by President of Pakistan. Besides the local awards, she was given the highest civil award of Japan.

Surayya Bajia passed away on February 10, 2016 at the age of 85.
