Google will ban all cryptocurrency-related advertising of all types in June 2018, according to a recent update to their Financial Services policy. This band will affect promotional campaigns for initial coin offerings (ICOs).
Under Google’s newly updated financial products policy, no advertisements for
“cryptocurrencies and related content (including but not limited to initial coin offerings, cryptocurrency exchanges, cryptocurrency wallets, and cryptocurrency trading advice),”
will be accepted.
Google has moved to ban crypto-currency advertisement from its platforms. Facebook had already banned crypto related Ads in January of current year, citing the potential for “deceptive promotional practices.”
Google’s move followed a warning about crypto-currencies published by the International Monetary Fund’s managing director on Tuesday.
“Money laundering and terrorist financing is only one dimension of the threat,”
wrote Christine Lagarde.
