Pakistan Produced Over 14 Million Mobile Phones in First 6 Months of 2022

According to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, local manufacturing facilities produced or assembled 14.08 million mobile devices during the first half of 2022 (January through June), as opposed to 1.14 million commercially imported handsets (PTA).

In June 2022, local manufacturing facilities produced or assembled 1.67 million mobile phones.
8.06 million 2G and 6.02 million smartphones are among the 14.08 million mobile devices that were produced or put together domestically. Furthermore, 46% of mobile devices on the Pakistani network are 2G and 54% of them are smartphones, according to PTA data.

In 2021, domestic manufacturing facilities produced/assembled 24.66 million mobile devices, up from 13.05 million the previous year. According to PTA’s official statistics, commercial mobile phone imports decreased to 10.26 million in 2021 from 24.51 million in 2020.

However, despite a rise in domestic production, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reports that during the fiscal year 2021–2022, Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $1.978 billion (PBS). The total amount of telecom imports into the nation climbed by 3.52 percent throughout the study period, or fiscal year 2021–2022, from $2.593 billion in July–June 2020–21 to $2.684 billion over the same time last year.

According to the PBS data, mobile phone imports into Pakistan declined by 76.52 percent from May 2022 to June 2022 and totaled $32.221 million as opposed to $137.213 million.
