At a ceremony conducted in FCS HQ, PTCL Group, Pakistan’s largest telecom operator PTCL & Ufone, donated life jackets to the Karachi fishing community to guarantee the safety of small-scale fishermen during the high tide season.
Representatives of the PTCL Group gave life jackets to Zahid Ibrahim Bhatti, chairman of the Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS), as a token of appreciation for the local fishermen’s efforts.
Head of Public Relations and Corporate Communication at PTCL Group, Amir Pasha, commented on the initiative and stated, “PTCL Group was always looking for opportunities to give back to the community where it is most needed.
He stated that the impending monsoon season makes it urgent to take action to protect the community of fishermen, who put their lives in danger to maintain the seafood supply chain. He claimed that safety was of the utmost concern and that these fishermen needed to have the appropriate training and safety equipment.
Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) Chairman Zahid Ibrahim Bhatti thanked PTCL Group for the considerate intervention. Despite the fact that fishermen are aware of the risk, he claimed that small-scale fishers cannot afford the cost of implementing the essential precautions.
He hoped that the business sector’s assistance with training and safety gear would significantly lower the number of safety occurrences. The PTCL Group is well known for its CSR efforts that have an impact and provide value for everyone. The wellbeing of the communities it serves is a priority for both PTCL and Ufone.
