Call it a superman eye or the innovation of technology but the news is that scientists from Scotland have introduced a camera that can see through human body. This is a unique introduction in the field of medical technology. The camera enables the view through the body.
It is going to do wonders in medical field and prove very beneficial for doctors. The camera would be used to assist the tools in endoscopy but with a great ease. It will allow the detection of easy track of the tools during the examining process of the patient in certain medical conditions.
The camera is designed such that it has the ability to detect light that is emitted by the medical tool and develop a picture of the internal environment. Just like in endoscopy, the camera develops an image by detecting light present at the tip of endoscope tube.
When the camera was tested the results showed that the camera has ability to detect endoscope from 20cm of tissues in the body. The best part of the camera is its affordable price.
It is comparatively cheaper than X-rays and other heavy machinery. The equipment is able to detect light before it scatters. Moreover, it is not to large to gain much space. It is small enough to be in the room beside the bed of the patient.
Prof. Kev Daliwal from the Edinburgh University said,
“The ability to see a device’s location is crucial for many applications in healthcare, as we move forwards with minimally invasive approaches to treating disease”.
Dr. Michael Tanner, of Heriot-Watt University also added,
“I hope we can continue this interdisciplinary approach to make a real difference in healthcare technology”.
The amazing result is the effort of both University of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt University. The project was the part of the Proteus Interdisciplinary Research Collaboration that aims to develop new technologies for the medical field particularly in diagnosing and treating the lung disease.
