Muntaqa Peracha has been hired as the Managing Director (MD) of foodpanda Pakistan, effective June 1, 2022.

Muntaqa will be in charge of foodpanda’s overall operations in the country, as well as its growth and expansion, as well as the introduction of new verticals, as MD. Muntaqa takes over as CEO following two and a half years as Commercial Director at foodpanda Pakistan, where he helped establish the brand as a household name in Pakistan.

Muntaqa was in charge of the company’s main food delivery operation throughout his time there, with an emphasis on establishing foodpanda as the preferred platform for participating merchants, consumers, and riders. He was instrumental in turning foodpanda into the country’s premier food and grocery delivery platform, forging important industry partnerships, empowering teams on the ground, and pushing significant investments in capacity building.

He also established new verticals like cloud kitchens and pandago, as well as foodpanda’s Logistics-as-a-Service vertical, which delivers quick, on-demand delivery, and grew the foodpanda Home Chefs programme to more than ten thousand registered home-based enterprises today.

Muntaqa adds his knowledge in emerging markets, strategy, growth, commercial innovation, and business/profitability turnarounds to the table, based on his more than 18 years of experience leading teams in high-growth IT firms in Pakistan and beyond.

Foodpanda has worked with the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) to train HomeChefs on enhanced safety measures and government SOPs in order to improve food packaging and hygiene standards during food preparation.

The goal of the training event was to foster and promote a food safety culture in Punjab by educating HomeChefs on basic cleanliness and safe food preparation.

HomeChefs are individuals who offer meals through online platforms from the comfort of their own homes. Currently, foodpanda has thousands of registered HomeChefs who have been accepted after passing severe routine tests for food hygiene, quality, safety, packaging, and other factors.

The company’s goal is to double the number of registered home chefs in the next two years, bringing the total to 100,000.

Foodpanda, Pakistan’s biggest delivery app, has teamed with Extreme Commerce to increase vendor acquisition, where consumers may learn how to become a successful HomeChef with foodpanda, enhancing e-commerce possibilities.

To kick off this relationship, a signing ceremony was held at the foodpanda headquarters in Karachi. The event was attended by Ahsan Malik, Head of HomeChefs, foodpanda; Binte Fatima, Team Lead Restaurant Operations; and Kashif Jaffri, CGO, Extreme Commerce, as well as other dignitaries.

Through this relationship with Extreme Commerce, foodpanda hopes to enhance the HomeChef ecosystem in Pakistan. Online food ordering service Delivery Hero buys Foodpanda.

The news was announced by a German Startup king Rocket Internet. They are selling the whole company of Foodpanda.

The two companies have been rivals since both came into operating online food delivery services.

Ralf Wenzel, Food panda’s CEO said,

“I am delighted to join forces with Delivery Hero and be part of a global platform that will help us grow and with which we share a common vision,”

Foodpanda is present in 22 countries including India, Thailand, Pakistan, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Philippines, Brunei, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.

In exchange of this deal Delivery Hero expects to get, its stake in the company to 37.7 per cent. The German unicorn paid US$586 million for a 30 per cent stake in Delivery Hero last year. The deal is to finalize in the early next year.

Delivery Hero is funded to the tune of US$1.33 billion spread across 11 rounds.
