Islamabad – Today, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the Ministry of IT & Telecom (MoIT&T), and the GSM Association (GSMA) unveiled the ‘Digital Nation Pakistan’ initiative and the country’s first Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy at the Digital Nation Summit 2024.

This summit, organized by GSMA, aims to promote industry discussions, regional collaboration, and the role of mobile technology in creating sustainable and inclusive digital ecosystems. The event brought together key technology stakeholders and government officials to discuss and push forward Pakistan’s digital transformation.

Federal Minister of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, highlighted the importance of digitalization for Pakistan’s future growth. He praised the PTA, GSMA, and other stakeholders for their collaborative efforts and emphasized the government’s commitment to providing equal digital access and opportunities.

Minister of State for IT&T, Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja, outlined the measures under the Prime Minister’s guidance to promote digital advancement nationwide, emphasizing the government’s proactive approach to ensuring widespread digital inclusion.

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, reaffirmed the authority’s dedication to enhancing connectivity and introducing advanced technological services. He also presented Pakistan’s first Digital Gender Inclusion Strategy, aimed at empowering women and closing the gender gap in the tech industry.

Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific at GSMA, spoke about Pakistan’s upcoming digital revolution and affirmed GSMA’s support for the nation’s digital goals. He highlighted the importance of events like the Digital Nation Summit in shaping Pakistan’s ICT future.

Lara Dewar, Chief Marketing Officer at GSMA, commended Pakistan’s progress and stressed the need for inclusion, investment, and partnerships as essential to building a successful digital nation. She encouraged Pakistan to use these pillars to drive digital transformation.

GSMA Global Mobile Awards (known as GLOMO 2017) is ahead and the big news is that just like past four years this time too, Easypaisa is in the list of nominations. This makes the service being nominated for GSMA Global Mobile Awards 2017 for the fifth consecutive year.

I would not be wrong if I say that the GLOMO are ‘Oscars‘ for the Mobile and Telecommunication industry. These are most prestigious awards . This year Easypaisa is nominated for category of “Best Mobile Payment Solution” Easypaisa has made online transactions fast, efficient and safe for the people of Pakistan.

The Chief Financial Inclusion and Digital Officer and Jrad of Easy Paisa Mr. Muhammad Yahya Khan was very excited and happy. He expressed his feelings saying,

Back in 2014 Easypaisa managed to bag two GSMA awards, the first one for “Best NFC/Mobile money product or service” and the second award was titled “Best Mobile Product or service for women in emerging markets”.

According to the buzz the GSMA awards are surely going to be held at “Mobile World Congress”. The congress is planned to be from February 27- March 2, 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.
