Dr. Umar Saif, the Chairman and Founder Vice Chancellor of Punjab Information and Technology Board (PITB) and the Mayor of Austin, Mr. Steve Adler signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The Memorandum featured the establishment of Lahore and Austin as the science cities.

During an official visit to USA Dr. Saif met with the US officials and the representatives from different institutions and specially the Mayor of Austin. During their meeting Dr. Saif introduces them to the successful programs PITB has been able to establish over the years like E-rozgaar, Wi-Fi Hotspots, E-Learn, Digital Inclusion and Smart transport solution.

For MoU Dr. Saif had to say,

“Under the MoU it is agreed to co-operate in the initiatives like organizing bi-lateral trade, economic development, and exchange missions to each city. Promotion of capital exchange and investment, development of joint educational programs and exchange opportunities between Austin universities and ITU will enable both sides to prepare students for the future.”

According to Dr. Saif some salient features of the MoU were:

1) Development of business-focused cultural exchange projects between the creative industry sub-sectors of both cities.

2) Broker international relationships between individuals and organizations.

3) Special attention on fields like innovative high-technology, advanced manufacturing, creative industries, professional services.

4)  Any other sector that can bring economic development.

5) Linkage of the financial and investment sectors in an effort to promote foreign direct investment in both communities,

6) Expansion of workforce development and education opportunities for the next generation of employees in the high-technology.

7) Promotion of creative industry.

8) Launch programs specially designed for students of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM).

The MoU will bring benefits to all and with this hope that Lahore and Austin Science Cities would help in greater development of country, the MoU was signed.

Dr. Saif also invited the mayor of Austin to visit Pakistan.

Startup Rumble

One of the key features of Startup Lahore would be the Startup Rumble. It’s a platform that will make it viable for the Entrepreneurs to submit a business idea of no more than 350 words! All the ideas would be a subject to vote.

The Finalist would be chosen on the basis of votes and would invited to Lahore to present their ideas as well as a detailed business plan in front of a jury and a large audience. The top teams will then be selected for the prize money.

The winners of Startup Rumble will also be given the opportunity to be accelerated at the PlanX accelerator.
The Plan would also enable People to interact with one another and comment on various ideas! This would enable entrepreneurs to mold their idea to suit as much a people as possible.

Crowding of Cities has given birth to Accumulation of vehicles which perhaps a Normal road in Pakistan can’t bear! From Malls to space occupied by hawkers you will find vehicles as congested as molecules in a solid with inability of free motion!

Forget finding a parking space at first and if you wish to do the only thing that can help you is your pocket! Either pays ‘Tip’, adopted in Pakistan as a synonym of Bribe, or the fee.

Keeping this in mind, the Punjab Government has recently spilled beans over the installment of a Modern Rotary Parking System in Lahore! The first center of development is going to be the Ferozepur Road, Ichhra. In this regard China would provide Five Rotary Machines to Punjab Government with each machine bearing levels for efficient parking. Each level would have the capability to crowd 12 Cars!

The Project first announced in February 2016 was delayed due to the inability of Lahore Parking Company to set up the parking machines. Not impressed over the pace project went, the Chief Minister has expressed anger and ordered the concerned officials to start working on this project.

Last month, CM announced that the road infrastructure in Lahore has been upgraded at the cost of millions of rupees and the officials are working to improve the quality of the traffic system.

He also approved funds worth PKR 100 million for upgrading the traffic system and said that the authorities are taking steps to make the traffic education a part of the syllabus.

Rotary Parking system reduces the space required for parking the cars. It uses an automatic method to pass cars from one level to the other. Needless to say, if program meets any sort of success, it would be extended not only throughout Lahore but even beyond!

To foreshadow the outcome of this Modern Rotary Parking System is somehow complex! Whether the Program acts as a burden on already fragile Pakistan Economy or would it succeed in its aim of accommodating more people, is something only time can answer!

Cyber Crime is one of the serious crimes of the time. With its increasing rate especially girls are facing great problems. They do not feel secure.

Now criminals won’t be spared.  Yasir Latif became the first culprit. He belongs to Lahore and he was accused for photo shopping pictures of girls and uploading them on social media.

The complaints against him were registered by the parents of the girls. His case was heard in Additional District and Session Judge in Lahore. After a lot of argues about, was he guilty or not? He was found guilty.

He is jailed for two years and has to pay a fine of Rs. 30,000/- as his punishment.

Yasir tried to defend himself by saying that his account was used by another person, but he was found guilty of it and sentenced to two years punishment.

Copying, photo shopping or distributing pictures of girls is part of cyber stalking. Without the consent of girl even sharing their pictures is illegal under Cyber Crime Law.

For cyber stalking, a person can be sentenced up to Rs. 1 million in fine or up to 3 years in prison. A person can be given both punishments together as well.

The bigger crime is making video or pictures of others without their consent and it can lead to fine if Rs. 1 million and 3 years jail.

The Cyber Crime Law Bill 2016 was passed this year in August. It was passed after much debate and after going through several amendments. The bill provides a basic framework of laws which prevent cyber crimes in the country.

It is justified decision no one had right to steal someone privacy or black mail them. Every person’s privacy should be maintained even on social networks. These networks are for the people to interact but in a positive way. Hope Cyber Crime entirely stops so everyone could feel safe.

The dates of the Lahore Science Mela are announced and it is starting on 28 of January 2017.  It will be a two days event ending on 29 of January 2017. The venue announced by authorities is Ali Institute of Education Lahore.

Science plays an important role in our life but yet our society is not able to accept its importance. To bridge a gap between the two sides. Khwarizmi Science Society is conducting this Mela. Mela is loved by everyone. The name itself is enough for the people. If you ask about synonym of Mela most people will answer you: Fun, science along with enjoyment is a miracle.

The authorities have claimed that this is the first time such an event is going to be organized in Lahore this is a brilliant way to combine science with Lahori Culture. Melas (Festivals) can be visited by everyone to explore the under-rated fun miracles of science.

Lahore Science Mela 2017 will cover several key modules that include the Human Health, Meet the Scientists etc.
