The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has started building a National Super App and Digital Portal. This platform will act as a single gateway for citizens and businesses to access services from both federal and provincial governments.

The system will focus on a citizen-first approach. It will connect with Pakistan’s national digital identity and data exchange layers. The design is scalable and will support ads, subscriptions, and partner services in the future.

This project falls under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP) with support from the World Bank. DEEP aims to expand access to digital services and strengthen adoption nationwide.

One-Stop Digital Gateway

The plan centers on creating a National Digital Portal—a super app and web interface that lets users interact with government services in one place.

By breaking silos between departments, the platform will simplify service delivery and improve transparency.

Citizens will access services like tax filing, license renewals, permit applications, healthcare, and education online. The portal will provide 24/7 access via mobile and web. It will support multiple languages and feature single sign-on through NADRA’s digital ID, including biometric login. Personalized dashboards will help users complete tasks faster.

Boosting Efficiency and Transparency

The app will also streamline government operations. Digital workflows, real-time status tracking, and automated notifications will cut delays and lower costs.

Officials expect the system to increase compliance and revenue collection by making it easier for people and businesses to pay fees and taxes online.

Secure and Scalable Design

The Super App will follow the Pakistan Digital Government Enterprise Architecture. It will adopt end-to-end encryption, a zero-trust security model, and compliance with the Personal Data Protection Bill and GDPR standards.

Built for growth, the platform can onboard new services quickly and integrate with third-party solutions. It will launch free of charge but later add freemium features, subscriptions, and advertising to support operations.

Next Steps

MoITT has started hiring a consultancy firm to design and develop the system. The firm will use a SuperApp framework with microservices architecture to ensure flexibility and easy updates.

The project will prioritize user-friendly design, standardized APIs, and smooth integration with the National Data Exchange Layer.

Once operational, Pakistan’s National Super App will transform digital governance. Citizens and businesses will finally be able to manage government services in one place with greater speed and transparency.

In order to facilitate the public attestation and equivalence process, the International Committee Chairmen’s Committee (COPIB) decided to integrate technology into the provision of services and launched a mobile application through which students can apply online.

With the integration of the online system and the launch of the application, students will also be able to submit fees through different channels. The new steps were decided at a high-level meeting of IBCC officials, which was chaired by Secretary Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, Secretary IBCC.

The IBCC secretary mentioned at the meeting that due to the end of public negotiations and blockade, people encountered problems in the process of submitting fees and documents.

Therefore, in order to facilitate this process, the department will launch a mobile application after a well-defined mechanism, Ghulam Ali said, adding that the department is working closely with NITB to digitize all educational committee data and implement it in schools Electronic office system.

“For the pilot project, the initial data from the five secondary and secondary education committees (BISE) will be digitized and is currently in the final stage.”

It was also reported during the meeting that after the launch of new IT-supported complaint repair and public disclosure services, COPIB The office received more than 20,000 calls, of which more than 14,000 were received through UAN.

“On the IBCC official website where the IBCC designated personnel are located, more than 2,500 people have also been contacted through IBCC real-time communication”, said in the meeting when discussing the progress report of IT empowerment services.

For some time now Pakistan Railway has been a bit behind but it has come up with a bang. Adopting the latest technology it finally launches an app for online reservation of seats.

The app is not only designed to reserve the seats but it also allows you to check different details of arrival and departure of 48 passenger trains.

Khawaja Saad Rafique held a press conference on Monday, in which he announced the launch of the app. Khawaja Saad Rafique is the Minister of Railways. Already railway has launched e-ticketing and after its success this step had been taken.

According to Mr. Saad Rafique,

“In October last year, we launched the e-ticketing initiative that got immense appreciation from the public, passengers can avail this facility on 48 trains currently operating on main lines”.

He further added, “The restructuring of IT directorate was not an easy task, as the corporation was passing through its worst period and private firms and young professionals were reluctant to work with railways.”

He took the stage to tell that railways have earned about Rs60 million through the e-ticketing initiative.

He said,

“We are not claiming that the state of affairs in railways has been fixed – (but) at least, things are now much more positive than they were in 2013.”

Pakistan Railways plan to update the German coaches too. For this purpose the about 300 economy-class coaches’ will be upgraded to the AC coaches.

The upgrade us expected to cost almost Rs. 5-6 million.

Moreover, the authorities have plans to upgrade 120 more coaches and 39 AC- sleepers coached in the late of 2017.

Khawaja Rafique said,

“We are currently auditing on merit the rehabilitation process of different coaches. We have to spend a huge amount on this project from our own resources and we are currently undergoing fiscal management.”

Mr. Khawaja also talked about railway issues and the steps being taken to solve these problems. He said,

“Railways is currently working with the Punjab government on a business model through which private firms will be invited to construct underpasses from level crossings in big cities and converting un-manned crossings to manned ones on a Build-Operate-Transf­¬er mode.”

He also added,

“We don’t want to depend on Chinese investments only; we welcome other mode of investments in different projects as the scale of the business is vast.”

WhatsApp now becomes more secure for everyone. It has introduced Two-Step Verification for everyone.

Also known as Two Factor Authentication the program was launched by WhatsApp in 2016 for beta version only. WhatsApp now plans to launch the same program for the users on Android, iOS and Window devices. Approximately 1.2 billion users use WhatsApp via Android, iOS and Window devices.

2FA is a secondary verification that makes sure that you only access your account. Even if someone knows your password they won’t be able to check into your account unless this code is provided the code can be alpha-numeric or anything else. The primary verification will be the password. The second step would be to enter second verification code.

For WhatsApp the first authentication will be your phone number and the second authentication will be a six-digit code.

It does not demand from you to enter code every time but it requires the code to be re-entered after every seven days.

Warning:

We must mention that according to a support document,

“If you have two-step verification enabled, your number will be permitted to reverify on WhatsApp within 7 days of last using WhatsApp without your pass code. Thus, if you forget your own pass code, but did not provide an email to disable two-step verification, even you will be permitted to re-verify on WhatsApp within 7 days of last using WhatsApp.

After these 7 days, your number will be permitted to reverify on WhatsApp without your pass code, but you will lose all pending messages upon revivifying – they will be deleted. If your number is reverified on WhatsApp after 30 days of last using WhatsApp, and without your pass code, your account will be deleted and a new one will be created upon successfully revivifying.”

Kindly make sure to add your e-mail, even if you have a really good memory. In this way all your conversations will be secured and you will be able to get your account back even if you forget the password.

WhatsApp is trying to make conversations secure day by day. Last year it introduced end-to-end encryption. This aimed to provide a total privacy by not involving any third party or WhatsApp to view content or listen to conversations.

Punjab Fix-It is a new mobile app that is to be installed in mobile phones of every chairman, deputy chairman and councilors of every union council. The PITB has introduced the app to fix problems of each union of Punjab more efficiently.

The application connects the public representatives to the relevant department to get their issues resolved. This will prove to be an efficient way to alert the departments and ask for their help.

As per the buzz the app aims to provide comfort of work for the public representatives. They don’t need to visit departments and bare the pain of nuisance. They will be able to report any problems to the departments by sitting at home.

In this way not only the representatives will be benefited but also the public. Now the problems of public will be solved in no time and solution of their issues will be just a single click away.

Chairman PITB, Dr. Umar Saif,

“Punjab Fix-It will help the newly-formed local governments to improve governance and resolve civic issues through technology intervention from the grassroots level in Punjab.”

Dr. Umar Saif advised the CM Punjab to pass the bills for such mobile app.

For the time, the app will connect to three departments that include Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL), WASA (Water and Sanitation Agency) and LWMC (Lahore Waste Management Company). As time passes the app will be updated and will connect representatives to more departments.

Director General (IT Operations) PITB, Faisal Yousaf was if the view,

“After the test run is completed, the mobile application will be introduced across Punjab. The software will be available to download from Google Play store for android phones and will also be available for iOs users.”

How will it work

Following the three simple steps can solve the issues related to the problems.

• 1) Selecting the category
• 2) Taking a picture of the problematic site
• 3) Adding relevant details and submitting the complaint

The complaint will be registered and it will be forwarded to the relevant official. The official will look into the problem and try to solve it as soon as possible. After the issue is resolved the status of submitted complain will be changed to solved from complaint. The person who complained will be notified about the situation.

To make it more efficient, Fix-It has a administrative dashboard. The dashboard will monitor all activities. It will feature the complaints registered and steps being taken to relive them. It intends to feature the solved problems too.

Note: This tool will be available to all the high-level government officials.

PITB has already worked a lot to resolve public problems with introduction of judicial e-stamps, e-learn Punjab etc, and, it plans to continue the efforts in maintaining a good lifestyle of people living in Punjab.

Soon winners of Mobile App Awards will be announced by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.

The finale is planned to be on 31st January, 2017. The event will be graced by the President of Pakistan himself.

Developers had  developed various apps that would help the disabled people to conduct the daily activities through mobile phones.

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Internet Society Asia-Pacific Bureau plans to conduct Pakistan Mobile App Awards 2016 together in association with Ministry of IT & Telecom, Telenor & Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP).

These awards are to promote the need of development of applications of mobile that can fulfill the needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The theme for the year was  “Embracing Mobile Accessibility.”

The participants were guided by mentors about the developments of app. The deadline to submit  application for developed apps was December 10, 2016.

There were total 30 applications submitted. PTA has finally received 11 developed applications. These applications were developed keeping in mind different disabilities of people but to the surprise no such application was developed that could aid people who are hearing impaired.

Chairman of PTA Syed Ismail Shah said,

“Application will enable the people with disabilities to live like normal people with the help of mobile phones that could enable them to do shopping, selling, submitting utility bills and communicating with other people for everyday matters.”

He further added,

“The event will be held on 31st of January, 2017 and will be graced by the President of Pakistan.”

The prize money is contributed by Telenor Pakistan. It is finalized that the 1st prize of the competition is about Rs. 300,000/- and the runner up will get a share of Rs. 200,000/-. The participant at the third position will receive Rs 100,000/-. The participant with amazing ideas and innovative work will also get consolation awards. To such participants will be selected and will be given Rs. 50000/- each.

The last date for submission of applications was 25 August, 2016.

The applications received by PTA were to help disabled people. Some of them are listed below.

Pocket Directorate

This helps a person who is visually impaired. With an audio input the app is going to receive direction and with audio output it will tell the directions.

iCataract

Another app to aid patients of vision loss. The app is determined to provide a reasonable  and self operative  cataract detection and diagnosis system.

Power eye

No more need for glasses.The app works as glasses for people with low vision. Google Cardboard will act as supporting platform.

An app that will serve as glasses for low vision people, using Google cardboard as a supporting platform.

Get a side

“Get a Side” application is a sensor based android mobile application. This helps blind people to move easily and independently.  It works as sensor for the obstacles or objects and than with audio output device that is connected via bluetooth it guides blind people.

Tell me

Another app to help visually impaired people and help them live independently.

Disabled people are part of our society we should embrace them and help them in every way possible.

Punjab Safe City Authority and Punjab Service Commission on Status of Women Safety has worked together to introduce an android application to ensure women security.

LUMS IT department is a notable member that has worked to bring this app into being. Women will be able to inform the official of Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control & Communication about any sort of harassment or abuse they are going through.

The police are directed to take a really quick action in such cases. The punishments of these cases will be given according to harassment laws. Panic button is made available in the app that redirects calls to 15.

The application is designed such that it will have list of harassment cases so a better awareness is provided to people.
PCSW aims to promoting gender equality. It is also trying empowering women to stand beside men and not behind him.

Discrimination with women is surely going to end in some time as there have been many campaigns and efforts helping to stop it for once and all.
