Govt. to Setup National Incubation Center in Quetta

Teamup is building a strong eco-system for nurturing innovation for Startups in Pakistan. According to the news, Government plans to setup National Incubation Center in Quetta.

NIC has already been launched in the large cities like Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar. The NIC Karachi has also won the award.

National ICT R&D fund is now open for suggestions and registrations from qualified and licensed legal entities to help support NIC program in Quetta. The Incubation center in Quetta will be managed by these legal entities.

The legal entities are required to apply against RFP. The major requirements are that these entities should be:

1. On Active Taxpayers List of FBR,
2. Have sound financial backing,
3. Should have professional management team,
4. Have relevant experience in ICT sector.

The government aims Pakistan to become a Digital Country. This is the reason they are establishing these NICs. The NIC in Quetta would be run on the funds from National ICT R&D Fund.

It would work just like the incubation center at Islamabad.

World racing towards modernization, ICT R&D Fund is welcoming proposals provide ICT training to Women. At the moment 48 percent of Pakistan’s population but the work force percentage is lesser than 25%, leave entrepreneurship.

Women being entrepreneurs is still a concept taking its roots in Pakistan. Ranking on scale, Pakistan ranks last in the Female Entrepreneurship Index (FEI) developed by the Global Entrepreneurship and Development Institute (GDI).

The Program targets over 500 women, at least 70 from each of the four provinces and aims at empowering them to become entrepreneurs as well as to spread awareness of the new tools of technology there too serve women. If all goes to plans the desired outcomes of the program are to reach women entrepreneurs the new ways of business as well as to inform them of the freelancing opportunities available in Pakistan.

The National ICT R&D Fund recently launched Pakistan’s first National Incubation Center in Islamabad and also plans to open in fours other cities.

Added to this the program also aims at teaching women entrepreneurs effective business ideas, product development and marketing. The Project welcomes Firms to submit a Technical Proposal with the Design as well as the Financial Proposal as per the Scope of Work given in the RFP document. The proposal will be the basis for contract finalization with the selected firm.

Section 2.7 states,

“The Company requires that the hired firm provides professional, objective, impartial advice and services and at all times hold the Company’s interests paramount, without any consideration for future work, and strictly avoid conflicts with other assignments or their own corporate interests.”

The firms selected would have to develop two week long customized programs which would teach women the different aromas of business, such as idea generation, developing etc.

The last date of submission is 6th March 2017, with the right of submission only reserved to tax payers.

Four Incubation Centers an announced to be built in different cities of Pakistan. An Incubation Centre is already running successfully in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The lucky cities where Incubation Centers are planned to be built include Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar. Digitization is very necessary foe the success and Government has a dream to digitize the country. That is the reason government plans to open Incubation Centers. All the funding will be done by National ICT R&D Fund.

These centers are to connect entrepreneurs, innovators and investors for more efficient working.

The work on the building of the Incubation Centers has started already. The National ICT R&D Fund is open to all suggestions and proposals by different companies. It is to grow and feature the talent in Pakistan.

Few months earlier in Islamabad the first ever National Incubation Center was established. It was by Jazz. It aimed and achieved to collect young talent from all over Pakistan.

National Incubation Center was sponsored by Mobilink Jazz XLR8 Program.

The work of Incubation was headed by Zouhair Khaliq and Pervaiz Abbasi.

From 08^th of December, 2016 The National Incubation is open for applications from willing participants from all over Pakistan. The applications are for first round of incubation program. Submit your application now and become a part of NIC’s first cohort! The deadline for applications is 25th December 2016.

This program is perhaps the largest of incubation events ever held in Pakistan. This is launched by association of Ministry of Information Technology and Telecom (MOITT), National ICT R&D Fund, Jazz and Teamup.
It aims to provide all startups with a free of cost workspace, incubation, acceleration – Jazz xlr8 program – seed funding and access to 50 million plus mobile customers. The Center will also give entrepreneurs access to industry leaders and world-class mentors, who will help startups realize their full potential.

If summarized it can be said that program aims to provide experience and resources for effective working.

Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication Ms. Anusha Rahman said,

“The National Incubation Center will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities to foster economic growth through innovation and wealth creation. Through this initiative, we hope to encourage an ecosystem of indigenous product development in the arena of ICTs. This initiative is in pursuance with Vision of the Government of Pakistan, which endeavors to encourage entrepreneurship-led­ growth. These tech start-ups will help us as a nation better embrace the innovation-centric knowledge economy.”

The CEO of The National ICT R&D Fund and the Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Dr. Syed Ismail Shah also said,

“National ICT R&D Fund is committed to bring about a technology revolution in Pakistan by motivating both academia and industry to perform research and develop state-of-the-art technologies and software. National Incubation Center will provide an innovative system designed to assist entrepreneurs and inventors in the development of new technology-based firms. It will effectively link talent, technology, capital and skill in order to accelerate the development of new businesses and thereby help the commercialization of technology.’’

Jazz and Vimapelcom are together aiming to help in shaping the future generation through exposure and seed funds. Vimpelcom’s ‘Make Your Mark’
and Jazz’s Jazz xlr8 are taking initiative ignite entrepreneurship among students and tech-savvy young minds.

The CEO of Mobilink and Warid Pakistan, Aamir Ibrahim also expressed his views regarding this. He said,

“Jazz xlr8 provides a launching pad for young entrepreneurs to test and market their ideas into the broader economy. The service delivery partner for this project is Teamup. It is going to be responsible for the management of the National Incubation Center.
