The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), has invited scientists, researchers, and students to participate in the country’s historic first human spaceflight mission. The initiative allows the public to contribute by proposing space experiments for the upcoming journey to the Chinese Space Station (CSS).

Suparco is calling for proposals for innovative experiments that can be conducted in space. The CSS offers a rare environment with microgravity, extreme temperatures, and vacuum conditions—ideal for groundbreaking research.

The CSS orbits the Earth at an altitude of around 380 kilometers. It follows an elliptical path inclined at 41.5 degrees to the equator. The station completes one orbit in just 92 minutes while traveling at a speed of 7.7 km per second.

Selected experiments will be conducted using the station’s advanced facilities. These include equipment for space life sciences, biotechnology, physics, fluid dynamics, material science, and astrophysics.

Suparco encourages experiments in agriculture and medical sciences. These fields can benefit greatly from the microgravity environment, offering insights not possible on Earth.

All proposals should meet the following criteria:

• Novel and scientifically unique

• Lightweight and cost-effective

• Feasible within a one-week timeframe in microgravity

• Aligned with the CSS’s research goals

• Supportive of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Launch Timeline of Spaceflight Mission

Pakistan’s first astronaut is expected to fly to the CSS by the end of 2026, following the completion of astronaut training and mission readiness. Suparco sees this mission as a major step for the country’s space program.
