The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Lahore Chapter hosted a talk titled The Entrepreneurial Journey by Tariq Sayeed Saigol at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club on Saturday April 29, 2017.

TiE opted to host the talk to create an opportunity for thought leaders, business professionals, industry innovators, renowned academics, promising startups and eclectic entrepreneurs to convene and gain practical knowledge and networking experience through such exposure.

Startups, specifically, had much to gain from this talk; by linking up with industry leaders and feeding off the energy of other startups present, they could enhance their reach and run their business plans by the relevant people.

Tariq Saigol, a highly accomplished businessman and the current CEO of Kohinoor Maple Leaf Group, was the keynote speaker for the event. Tariq Sayeed Saigol is a graduate of Government College Lahore and has a degree in Law from University Law College.

He takes keen interest in the development of education in Pakistan and holds various positions at prestigious educational institutes like Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and Aitchison College. His experience and expertise, which he narrated via the talk, provided insightful and valuable knowledge to the audience.

Sidra Ahmed, Marketing Manager at Kohinoor Maple Leaf Group, moderated the event. She holds a master’s degree in English from Kinnaird College and a master’s degree in Business Administration from LUMS. Previously, she has worked as a creative manager at Vantage Printers, and has won various design awards for her creativity and research expertise. Her moderation was a delightful experience for all those present.

To complete the proceedings, President TiE Lahore, Humayun Mazhar, shared the future roadmap that the chapter had envisioned for itself, along with the concrete steps that would be taken to ensure TiE lived up to its name and purpose. The talk ended on a positive note with active participation from the audience. The evening concluded with a networking session.

TiE Lahore Chapter is an International, non-profit organization fostering entrepreneurship with 61 chapters in 18 different countries and 13,000 members worldwide. TiE hosted a mega workshop on Healthcare-Revolutionizing Healthcare Delivery in Pakistan at Royal Palm on Friday November 25, 2016 at 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

The aim of the workshop was to bring together healthcare practitioners & professionals, pharmaceutical companies, medical institutes, academia, entrepreneurs, healthcare startup founders and students. The workshop focused in new developments in Healthcare ecosystem globally and locally and implication of these changes for the health sector in Pakistan. How various startups and companies are facilitating in bridging the identified gaps in the ecosystem.

Mr Osman Khalid Waheed was the keynote speaker for the event. He is the President of Ferozsons. He has brought an alliance with Boston Scientific Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of medical devices. He forged partnerships with German and Latin American Bio-technology companies to provide treatment for life threatening diseases including hepatitis, cancer and lung disease. He also opened fields of cardiology, gastroenterology, and dermatology and brought it as a leader in value added market segments.

Furquan Kidwai was the second speaker for the event, who is founder of Dawaai.pk and is an entrepreneur building an Amazon styled ecommerce venture in Pakistan. He launched his entrepreneurial journey in the eHealth space which has now expanded to a wider consumer market.

Dr Omar Chughtai was the third speaker for the evening. He is Director Operations at Chughtai lab. Dr Omar believes that the use of technology and automation can help to deliver quality and convenience to patients. He is keenly interested in the local startup ecosystem, particularly in the healthcare space, because these companies will lead the next big transformation in healthcare delivery in Pakistan.

The workshop also hosted a panel of startups doing ground breaking revolution in Healthcare delivery. Hyder Mumtaz CEO – Augmentcare; Nadir Mumtaz – CEO from Sehat a subsidiary of Apothercare; Saba Gul Hassan – Founder & CEO of SGH; Abid Zuberi – Co Founder My doctor.pk; Hasaan Chattah – Country Head RingMD and Ehsan Imam – CEO Marham appeared in the panel and shared their valuable insights. The panelists shared their vision for the future and how their company is bridging the gaps in the healthcare sector.

Fahad Tanveer was our panel moderator he is an experienced management professional, and a passionate entrepreneur aiming to redefine healthcare and education service delivery in Pakistan.   He is currently a co-founder of A* and also a member of Vitalis Healthcare, a consulting group that helps identify and capitalize on investment opportunities in Pakistan’s healthcare eco-system

Mr. Humayun Mazhar, President TiE Lahore Chapter added that I feel that there is humongous potential in Pakistani health care delivery models. Since we cannot serve 200 million people through our traditional public sector hospitals not even with private hospitals due to the cost and logistics. We need to think about telemedicine, technology driven gadgets and Web based consultation. This will help government to penetrate in every nook and corner of Pakistan. He also shared the future roadmap for the Chapter.

Mr. Naveed Khalid Vice President for the chapter and executive director for Medipak added,

“Through the ages, the quest for the preservation of life, treatment of ailments whether through preventative or curative methods and the extension of life span have been at the forefront of our existence.”

TiE Lahore is very pleased to have put together this workshop to not only encourage aspiring entrepreneurs within the health tech space but also to discuss a topic so closely intertwined with the fabric of human life.

The talk ended on high note with active participation from the relevant circles, academia, professionals, startup founders, incubators and accelerators. The audience applauded the efforts and greatly appreciated the format of the program.
