The federal and Punjab government decided to jointly establish the University of Applied Engineering and Emerging Technologies (UAEET) in Sialkot to provide the necessary funds for its construction.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be 16.8 billion Pakistani rupees. At the same time, it is free of cost. The Punjab government has provided 500 acres of land for it.

The governments of the two countries will now contribute half of the project planned to be completed in 2027. The university was created in cooperation with technical universities in Austria and China.

According to the official statement, the university will offer at least five major bachelor and master programs, including industrial engineering, manufacturing and mechatronics, chemical and materials engineering, information technology, artificial intelligence, agricultural engineering/industrial biotechnology, and business management and entrepreneurship And information.

The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) stated that UAET will also offer dual degrees to its graduates. In the initial stage, a total of 150 acres of land will be used to develop the campus on it, and then the entire 500 acres will be converted.

In the City of Knowledge, there are also science and technology parks. In addition to a total of five academic districts and an administrative district with a central library and three shelters (one girl, two boys), this technology park will have start-up business incubators, small and medium-sized enterprises shell units, and large company plots.

For teachers, family suites, activity centers, guest houses, mosques, schools, sports centers, and other related facilities furnished for foreign teachers will be part of the project.

It was announced, free Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed in public places in several cities of Punjab. Digital Punjab Program has installed Wi-Fi hotspots in Lahore, Multan and other major cities of Punjab. The people there complained that they are having problems accessing the Punjab Free Internet and thus It’s useless.

We guess people have assumed some other service.

To clear any misconception about the service The Chairman of PITB, Mr. Umar Saif, has recently twitted and cleared the clouds.

He said that people cannot access the hotspots (Punjab Free Internet) on roads. The Wi-Fi hotspots are installed in the public areas such as waiting areas of metro stations, parks and hospitals etc.

He further mentioned that the free internet is not for those who are passing by these signs or from roads.

It is announced that The CM of Punjab, Mr. Shehbaz Sharif will be present at inauguration ceremony of this project. The ceremony will be held in two or three weeks.

250 routers are already set in Lahore and more are to be placed in Multan and Rawalpindi. The government of Punjab is taking this initiative to provide easy access to internet.

Another step is taken to protect women from harassment. Physical or mental abuse was very common decades back. Now the situation is bit better but still it cannot be said that it has stopped. In many areas of Pakistan women are getting tortured even now.

Punjab Safe City Authority and Punjab Service Commission on Status of Women Safety has worked together to introduce an android application to ensure women security.

LUMS IT department is a notable member that has worked to bring this app into being. Women will be able to inform the official of Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control & Communication about any sort of harassment or abuse they are going through.

The police are directed to take a really quick action in such cases. The punishments of these cases will be given according to harassment laws. Panic button is made available in the app that redirects calls to 15.

The application is designed such that it will have list of harassment cases so a better awareness is provided to people.
PCSW aims to promoting gender equality. It is also trying empowering women to stand beside men and not behind him.

Discrimination with women is surely going to end in some time as there have been many campaigns and efforts helping to stop it for once and all.

The Government of Punjab and Huawei Technologies are looking forward to work with each other. They have recently signed an agreement that aims to start e-Service pilot projects in health and education sectors of Punjab, Pakistan.

On this occasion Jahanzeb Khan who is the Chairman Planning and Development Punjab said,

“Huawei Technologies Company has agreed to set-up e-services pilot projects in four hospitals, one university, one college, one high school and one elementary school free of cost in Punjab as its pilot projects.”

The event was also graced by the presence of Najam Ali Shah who is the Secretary Specialized Healthcare Punjab and Huawei Chief Executive Officer Saif-Chi.

The agreement plans to open up smart e-Classroom at IT University Lahore. It aims to help students to communicate with professors and scholars of partner institutes. The monitoring system can capture and save video.
The agreement is not only confined to Lahore there are other institutes to which the same facilities with be provided soon. The other institutes are Directorate of Staff Development Lahore, Government High School Raiwind Lahore and Government College of Elementary Teachers, Multan. Online learning and innovative ICT will help improve teaching quality.

Huawei would help in all sorts of technical assistance in healthcare e-Services. The major aim is to provide District Hospital Muzaffar Garh, Children’s Hospital Lahore, Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Gojra and Rural Health Center medical solutions and consultancy. Hospital Information Management System will be installed in the hospitals for this purpose.

Nothing can be better than technology used for education and health purposes as health is wealth and education is the first step to success.

It is reported that Dr. Umar Saif, is now the part of Cabinet of Punjab. Umar Saif is actually Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU). The news came across saying that he has been appointed as new advisor to the Chief Minister Shabaz Shareef. The news was confirmed by Umar Saif who responded via tweet:

Dr. Umar Saif has a rich academic background. He has been student at LUMS, Cambridge and MIT. He completed his studies and became an entrepreneur and computer scientist. His ultimate success started when he joined the Information Technology University (ITU), Punjab as Vice-Chancellor in 2013. Over there Dr. Umar Saif worked to establish university and its courses. His works just is not limited to that but he has launched many programs to improve the services provided to the ordinary citizens including police, high-court, city district government, health and education, especially using smart phones.

In collaboration with Google, he led the development of Punjab Innovation Policy and launched Plan-9, Pakistan’s first and largest public-sector startup incubator. Dr Saif has also helped bolster IT in Pakistan. Though his achievements cannot be defined by awards still they show his success. He is the first ever Pakistani in top 35 of young innovators in the world (TR35) by MIT Technology Review and also to receive Google Faculty Research Award in 2011.

Sitarta Imtiaz is one if his biggest achievement of life. This is not an ordinary award. It is presented to someone who does something unique and extraordinary. Dr.Saif is one of those people in Pakistan who deserve this award. H addition to the Cabinet of Punjab stimulates optimism regarding the growth of IT and ICT research and innovation in Punjab.

Dr. Saif is one of those people who make their name by working hard day and night. Success comes to those who strive for it. There is a long journey of success waiting ahead. We wish he climbs more ladders and we congratulate him for this his success from core of our hearts.
