Sindh Government Decides to Adopt Cloud First Policy
The Sindh government has committed to follow the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications’ Cloud First Policy (MoITT).
According to MoITT sources, this is the first time the Sindh government has consented to the federal government’s strategy, which has already received approval from other provinces.
Representatives of the Sindh government expressed qualms about the strategy during a meeting held in the ministry in February this year, saying they would examine it with their province administration. All other provinces’ representatives were in favour of adopting the Cloud First Policy at the same meeting.
According to insiders, the Sindh government has not only decided to accept the policy, but has also begun the process of putting it into effect. Sindh’s government has created a tentative framework for implementing the Cloud First Policy and has given it to the Law Department for review.
Sindh Government is likely to approve this framework after examination by the law department. This framework establishes which responsibilities are the provinces’ duty in the Cloud First Policy, as well as how those activities will be carried out by the provincial government.
According to MoITT sources, other provinces are working on a framework to execute the Cloud First Policy within their respective borders, in addition to Sindh. The implementation of cloud policy will speed up if the province governments approve these frameworks. Provincial governments will set up a cloud acquisition office to implement the policy, similar to the cloud office in the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication.
