IT Ministry Launches 14 e-Rozgaar Centers to Boost Freelancing in Pakistan
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has established 14 e-Rozgaar Centers across Pakistan as part of its initiative to promote freelancing and digital entrepreneurship.
According to a document from the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), work is currently underway to develop an additional 20 centers. The government aims to establish a total of 250 e-Rozgaar Centers nationwide by February 2027, with an anticipated annual revenue contribution of $50 million to the national economy.
The e-Rozgar initiative is a key component of the Prime Minister’s Digital Strategy, designed to reduce youth unemployment by fostering freelancing opportunities. These centers provide essential infrastructure and resources, enabling young professionals to compete in the global digital economy. The initiative also seeks to democratize access to digital workspaces, ensuring that freelancers from all regions of Pakistan can benefit.
As part of the expansion plan, e-Rozgaar Centers will be established in every district, with allocations based on population distribution and data from Ignite’s 1.2 million registered freelancers. Punjab is set to receive 149 centers, Sindh 51, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 28, Islamabad 11, Balochistan six, Azad Kashmir three, and Gilgit-Baltistan two centers.
The process for establishing these centers begins with the publication of Expression of Interest (EoI) notices in newspapers, PPRA channels, PSEB’s official platforms, and social media networks. An independent committee evaluates applications and selects suitable buildings to host the e-Rozgaar Centers.
To support this initiative, the government, in collaboration with commercial banks, is offering interest-free loans of up to Rs. 10 million to building owners willing to provide space for the centers.
Beyond infrastructure development, the program also offers free training for developers, equipping them with essential skills for the digital marketplace. Additionally, trainers’ expenses and marketing support are covered under the initiative to ensure its success.
