In a landmark moment for Pakistan’s startup ecosystem, Myco, the country’s fastest-growing video streaming platform, has clinched the top spot in Season 9 of Meet the Drapers — a global startup reality show hosted by legendary Silicon Valley investor Tim Draper.

The win comes with a Rs420 million ($1.5 million) package — comprising $500,000 in equity investment and a $1 million SaaS services contract — making it the highest outcome achieved by any startup in the season.

This marks the first time a Pakistani-origin startup not only reached the finale but also emerged as the leading winner in the show’s history. Myco was selected from over 2,000 startups worldwide.

From Pakistan to the World Stage

The journey began when Paklaunch founder Aly Fahd convinced Tim Draper to dedicate an episode to Pakistani startups in October 2024 — a first in the show’s nine-season run. Out of multiple local contenders, Myco stood out, progressing through the semi-finals as the most-voted global startup and a fan favorite.

The finale was filmed in California in April 2025, followed by an intensive due diligence process. The deal was finalized in July 2025.

A Silicon Valley Endorsement

Tim Draper — known for early bets on Tesla, SpaceX, Skype, Coinbase, and Baidu — praised Myco’s innovative blend of storytelling, sports, and Web3 economics, calling it “the future of streaming.”

“Myco is one of the top Pakistani startups that PakLaunch has enabled within our network over the past three years,” said Aly Fahd. “This achievement proves the quality of Pakistani entrepreneurs on the global stage.”

Myco’s Rise and Reach

Founded in the UAE in 2021 by Umair Masoom, Myco has rapidly grown into a 20 million-user platform in just 18 months in Pakistan alone.

The platform offers more than cricket — although it holds rights to ICC events, PCB, PSL, and English Premier League — expanding into sports like MMA, Karate Combat, Padel, Squash, and Volleyball, alongside university and local tournaments.

Key Stats:

20M+ users in Pakistan within 18 months

Targeting 50M+ users by end of 2025

Next Steps

With the new funding and SaaS deal, Myco plans aggressive expansion into North America, MENA, and South Asia, deepen its sports partnerships, launch its Watch & Earn rewards token, and form fintech alliances to drive creator and user monetization.

About PakLaunch

Founded in 2020 by Aly Fahd, PakLaunch is a global community of 350,000+ members in over 30 countries, connecting the Pakistani diaspora with local startups, investors, and global markets. It runs events such as the Paklaunch Unconference and digital accelerator programs.

About Myco

Myco is a Web3-powered video streaming and sports media platform combining premium sports rights, entertainment, and creator monetization. Its Watch & Earn ecosystem rewards users for their attention, bridging the gap between content consumption and real-world value.

Following its Meet the Drapers victory, Myco is positioning itself to become the world’s leading Web3 entertainment super app — where content meets commerce.

In a landmark step for Pakistan’s blockchain and AI innovation ecosystem, Vanar — the intelligent Layer-1 blockchain purpose-built for real-world finance — has successfully graduated the first cohort of Web3 startups from its Web3 Leaders Fellowship, a four-month accelerator run in collaboration with Google Cloud.

Bringing together frontier technology, entrepreneurship, and institutional-grade infrastructure, the fellowship fast-tracked eight promising startups working at the intersection of blockchain, artificial intelligence, and user-centered design. Each startup received hands-on mentorship from Vanar’s blockchain engineers and product teams, along with technical infrastructure, Web3 tools, and up to US $25,000 in Google Cloud credits. A further US $25,000 milestone-based grant was awarded by Vanar itself.

Web3 Meets Pakistan’s Innovation Wave

The startups span verticals such as carbon credit trading, decentralized finance (DeFi), and play-to-earn gaming. Over the course of the program, founders participated in code reviews, product clinics, and workshops covering everything from scalable Solidity architecture and tokenomics modeling, to on-chain AI agent design using advanced prompt engineering.

The program culminated in a demo day in Lahore, where founders pitched live to a curated audience of investors, Web3 builders, and ecosystem partners.

“The Fellowship converted months of guesswork into weeks of momentum,” said Anjum Shahzad, CEO of identity management startup Flare ID.

“It connected us with decision-makers that normally take a year of networking to reach,” added Talha bin Afzal of ExoFarm, a play-to-earn gaming platform.

Saad Siddiqui of edtech startup Edversity pointed out the program’s psychological impact: “Building alongside two global leaders forces you to raise your own bar.”

A Strategic Bet on Pakistan’s Digital Future

Pakistan’s digital economy is undergoing a historic transformation. In May, the Ministry of Finance allocated 2GW of surplus electricity for Bitcoin mining and AI data centers, an unprecedented policy move aimed at attracting foreign direct investment and high-tech employment.

Simultaneously, grass-roots adoption continues to surge. Chainalysis ranks Pakistan ninth globally for peer-to-peer crypto adoption, while local communities like Web3 Pak have grown to over 7,000 members across 40 universities, offering a rich talent pipeline for programs like Vanar’s Fellowship.

Scaling Beyond Borders

Vanar’s CEO and co-founder Jawad Ashraf believes this is only the beginning for emerging market builders:

“The graduation proves that frontier founders can leapfrog the traditional development cycle. By combining the high-speed, AI-native Vanar Chain with Google Cloud’s world-class infrastructure, we are helping startups eliminate the old trade-offs between speed, cost, and security.”

He also announced that applications for the 2026 Fellowship will open later this year and will, for the first time, expand to founders from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, while maintaining a core focus on Pakistan.

About Vanar

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi)will become the first technology school in India to start a fellowship to help research students and PhD degree-holders to launch startups with products developed through their research findings.

IIT Delhi will give it’s students an option to start their own venture at a separate incubation centre launched by IIT Delhi . It will be a great boost to startup ecosystem in India and will help to grow their economy.

Currently about 2,500 students are studying PhD in centrally funded technical institutions (CFTIs) but hardly any opportunity available for them to start firms based on their research or thesis.

IIT Delhi director Prof. Ramgopal Rao said to media,

“We will give an opportunity to PhD students to launch start-ups by converting whatever they have learnt and discovered. They will get fellowship for three years to pursue their vision,”

Further he said that, they are going to setup new incubation centers in Haryana and Sonepat districts.

The university will select 20 candidates from each batch based on their research and allow them continue with their startup initiatives.

IIT director determined that If we can incubate 20 startups and two of them succeed, that will be a big achievement.

“Fitbit for cows”, just made a big announcement. The startup “Cowlar” that helped farmers to increase the milk production is now the part of Y Combinator winter ‘17 batch.

Cowlar, started its services in Pakistan some years ago, but now its headquarter in California. The startup built a tracking wearable that detected the best time for insemination. It actually did this by keeping record of the body temperature of the animal body.

Back in 2015 Markhor became the first Pakistan startup to get included in Y Combinator’s batch and now after 2 years Cowlar has stepped into the team.

As per the claim by Umer Adnan, who serves as the CEO of Cowlar, the wearable has ability to increase dairy output by approximately 15 per cent. He said, “We’re a hybrid of dairy science and machine learning inside a plastic box.”

The problem of the average milk yield is not only in Pakistan but it is spread in Asia. The countries with largest wild stock population go through this problem too. The reasons for this can be categorized majorly in poor farming methods or lack of nutrition So, Cowlar solves this major issue.

During an interview Umer said,

“The biggest thing we’re trying to capture is when a cow is in heat. If farmers miss the heat cycle then the next cycle comes after 21 days. If you miss that, you’re missing out on 21 days of milk production.”

Story behind Cowlar

Cowlar Team

Umer discovered the idea when he was preparing some designs for the crop monitoring and agricultural monitoring. Cowlar was one of those products. He was working in E4 Technologies that made profitable revenue of US$300,000. Then the team started working on only Cowlar as it was the most unique idea that could benefit the farmers a lot.

Umer is of the view, “The response ever since we entered Y Combinator has been phenomenal and beyond our wildest expectations. It wasn’t easy to give up a substantial amount of money but we’re trying to fundamentally change the dairy industry.”

According to Umer,

“There are four to five other startups that are making wearable devices for cows, but say they’re far more expensive and costly to maintain. UK-based Lely, which makes robotic milking systems that incorporate electronic collars, costs almost US$200,000 to set up.”

Furthermore, he also told that it is suggested that the agri-firms should send teams to install such detectors so that agricultural fields could be improved.

“I’ve challenged my team to make products that even our grandmothers can install and use,” he laughs.

He further added, “

The YC experience so far has been “tremendous,” with several partnerships and deals signed due to the networks that the superstar accelerator opens up.”

Umer says, “They’re growing pretty fast organically – talking to large dairy associations and farming bodies in the US – and are in the midst of locking down some serious deals.”

Currently Cowlar mostly concerned about maintaining quality and service levels as we ship more and more quantities,”

Feedback helps to increase efficiency. The farmer’s dashboard plays an important role in this.

Despite the criticism Uber and Airbnb have received over increasing income inequality, a new Pakistani Startup, GharPar, which means “At Home”. It provides you professional beauty services at your doorsteps. This news startup was operating since September 2016 in Stealth Mode and now starting to have impact on lives of people, especially its freelance beauticians.

The Co-founder of GharPar, Arooj Ismail was quoted saying,

“The basic inspiration behind the idea was that we realized there’s a lot of exploitation in the salon business. The average beautician in these parlors, according to both official statistics and our findings, is only paid roughly US$80 a month. They get a little bit extra as tips but that’s about it. In the beginning, when we had just started our community mobilization, lots of women we spoke to were highly skeptical of the idea. They were used to being paid low wages. When we told them they could increase income by more than 300 percent, they laughed at us,”

she says. “Some thought they might be forced into prostitution.”

According to Arooj the Beauticians don’t get paid much. There is a fragmented system of beauty professionals in the country, neither providing uniformity, nor good ethic. The payments are minimal, often left to the client’s discretion and that means little. The Startup required a lot of convincing, which was aided by Arooj’s sister owning a Saloon herself.

The startup “GharPar”, with a very close network, works with Beauticians, thus the standards are paramount as are the communication skills. The Rates are fixed and the customers are made aware of them before they request a service.

At the moment there are 17 freelance beauticians available on GharPar, which takes about 30 percent of the transaction to pay for the overheads and marketing expenditures. Others take close to this with Uber consuming 25 percent, excluding the booking fees.

The average pay has swelled upto US$450 with the highest-performing beautician raking about US$ 1000 in December. Arooj believes the amount may be small compared to Western Countries but pretty high when you consider the average minimal wage in Pakistan is US$140 for Beauty Professionals.

The Pakistani is also helping girls in Singapore as she stated,

“We are first and foremost a social enterprise company. A lot of our work is centered around helping minority groups and other disadvantaged communities.”

The Startup claiming 1200 Customers in Lahore is planning to expand to other cities as well. But for now the bookings can be made on the website, the Facebook page and on the phone as well. There is no app as of now but is due as soon as they are able to figure out the best way to incorporate it.

The reason being separate skill set of each beautician. When a prospective client requests multiple services, then it’s likely that two or three women will fulfill the task. One might work on her hair, while the other finishes up a manicure.

In case, a client misbehaves or refuses to pay, she is banned and blacklisted. To avoid all the crap a client has to provide a government-issued ID during the registration process.

“It’s vital for security and safety of our beauticians – we need to make sure there’s a pleasant and professional experience for both,”

says Arooj.

The four talented graduates of NED University, who are successfully running their startup, WrapKar, proved that their business remains un-affected by the ban on billboard advertising in place. They have devised a new way to promote business and have set a remarkable example that success can not be hindered by temporary bans.

Yes, This Pakistani startup WrapKar is a big hit. With this, now advertisements are more effective. They reach more people and are more efficient than stationary billboards. It is also providing platform for people to make some money.

The startup puta the advertisements on cars and than these cars are moved around the city. Till date about 300 drivers and owner of these vehicles are associated with startup. Also seven to eight companies are reported to have been engaged with the startup so far. These companies deal in food and fashion.

One of the co-founder of WrapKar, Mubashir Sakhi has said,

“We have successfully run our pilot project with PakWheels’ advertisements displayed on three cars through October-November 2016.”

According to stats claimed by startup the three cars was able to cover a combined distance of 2,962 kilometers on Karachi roads.

This way is effective and easy. This is helpful for people, company, car owners and even the drivers. The owners of cars usually get Rs 5,000-18,000 a month.

The aim of formation of startup was to share advertisement-generated revenues.

Interview: WrapKar by idgwebstudio

Not all times are suitable to run the cars on roads. Each car should at least cover 35 km /day. It should be well maintained and the car should run on roads while the roads are full of traffic.

About, car monitoring, the co-founder has to say ,

A Multi-billion Dollar Market, Internet of Things (IoT) is aimed at connecting people so they are able to communicate, one with another. Smart Devices, is a local IoT startup that facilitates you to control any electrical device remotely whilst sitting at your home or anywhere across the globe. Smart Devices incubated at Plan9 and accelerated at PlanX has been acquired by Bluestar, an IoT division of Orient.

IoT is the talk of the town nowadays! that’s why Smart Devices recognition came both domestically and internationally in a short period of time. They won Pakistan’s first IoT Award in 2015, they also got selected into the FbStart program by Facebook and won the National Mobile App Award in 2017.

Pakistani Startup Smart Devices was also nominated for World Summit Award, working in collaboration with United Nations. After achieving mind bobbling success in Pakistan, they are competing with 178 Nations worldwide.

Attention never goes unnoticed. In 2016 a research and development wing of Orient Electronics, BlueEast Private Limited’s director Abdul Rehman Talat was quoted saying

“We have been monitoring Smart Devices and Abdul Ghaffar for about a year now. They have been without a doubt been the most promising startup in IOT, in Pakistan. “

Abdul Rehman Talat further added that,

“Smart Devices is the only local company that has a finished product. It’s a company that shares our vision of a connected Pakistan, we want to expand the horizons on person to machine and machine to person interactions. Acquiring Smart Devices has allowed us to pool in our resources and further our progress to our shared end goal. Ghaffar is an entrepreneur; he has the vision and enthusiasm to take our vision forward. With Ghaffar on board we now have more clarity, and you will yourself see the seeds of this investment yield their return, soon.”

After reflecting upon the matter the two, Abdul Ghaffar and Talat came upon an agreement by the end of 2016; the result being BlueEast’s focus upon Go to Markets for IoT and E-Commerce Solutions.

Ghaffar vision was seemingly similar to Abdul Rehman’s. To him Orient would always go ahead in IoT market than others for Orient is a reputed brand across the country. To him its only about aligning the goals at this point.

He recently quoted,

“Smart Devices had strong software and Orient have strong hardware. So, it was a good decision to go together. Our goal is to make Pakistan stand with the top IoT countries in the world. Smart Devices acquisition is the first of its kind in the region and with an industrial giant like Orient acquiring it, this proves Pakistan is ready for advance tech like IoT. I think it’s high time for IoT players to work together and create a better and common ecosystem.”

The Chairman of Punjab Information Technology Board, Vice Chancellor of ITU and Chairman of MITEFP, Dr Umar Saif, shared recently,

“the eco-system is truly flourishing right now. Many startups aspire for an investment, however sometimes being acquired can mean greater things for the entrepreneurs and their respected startup. This acquisition gives Abdul Ghaffar the chance to tap into Orient’s consumers and truly revolutionize the way Pakistanis interact with technology through IoT.”

Before the achievement to say the least, Smart Devices were incubated at Plan9 and the accelerated at PlanX. Ghaffar stated that

“PlanX helped us gain a lot of customers. They helped us in marketing and building a good brand from ground up. They also provided us access to mentors and networking opportunities. I think where are we today is because of PlanX.”

Will Smart Devices carry up the Wings or would the wind blow it away? Time must answer!

In an effort to introduce revolution in the healthcare sector of Pakistan and to ensure the availability of authentic and experienced doctors within a user’s vicinity, “MARHAM – Find a Doctor” has been introduced as a service to facilitate both the patients and the doctors.

Started in January 2016, Healthcare Startup MARHAM is an online platform, which is to provide patients with a list of validated doctors based on their location. Doctor validation is done with assistance with the consultation of Pakistan Medical and Dental Association, hence also resolving the issue of quacks and incompetent doctors in the Pakistani market.

MARHAM can be accessed by website or you can download Marham mobile apps Android and iOS application.

The word MARHAM is derived from Urdu Language, which means “to cure someone.”

CEO Marham, Mr. Ehsan Imam says,

“MARHAM is not just a product. It is a vision, under whose umbrella many different products come. The combined purpose of those products is to offer a better healthcare experience to the patients and the doctors.”

MARHAM is a Lahore based startup that is currently targeting 12 major cities in Pakistan. However, it is looking to rapidly extend its outreach to the second and third tier cities as well. MARHAM’s range of products allows the customers to check on the best doctors in Pakistan. A patient can check the personal profile of the doctor to check the expertise and other patients’ reviews of that doctor.

Once the patient is satisfied, he can digitally book an appointment, by the press of a button, and then meet the doctor. Moreover, Healthcare startup MARHAM also gives a public forum that help the patients and doctors to interact virtually and get second opinion.

Other than that, MARHAM’s products also make lives easier for the doctors by giving them multiple services that can help them in getting more patients and ensure the smooth influx of existing patients. That particular product is called “Dashboard”. It works as a scheduler for the doctors, where they get live information about the status of their appointments. The doctors are notified whenever a new appointment is placed. It also gives doctors the discretion to cancel or postpone all appointments with one click.

Team Marham with the founder and CEO, Ehsan Imam, in the exact center.

MARHAM also serves as a marketing platform for the doctors. There are some good doctors in the healthcare sector, who are unable to effectively market themselves due to any reason. MARHAM offers them a platform to market themselves and their services. MARHAM not only facilitates marketing on their own website, but also helps doctors to manage their social media pages or their website.

With a little over one year, Healthcare Startup MARHAM has achieved climaxes of success. It has successfully listed down more than 9000 accredited doctors, more than 30,000 thousand people have downloaded MARHAM application and there are more than 31,000 members in the MARHAM’s Facebook group. Numerous doctors have also subscribed to MARHAM’s dashboard and marketing services.
