Online Scammers Arrested in Karachi For Stealing Thousands of Dollars

In Pakistan, financial fraud is as pervasive as ever. Three individuals have reportedly been detained for stealing money through internet fraud in Karachi, Joharabad, according to a recent police report released.
The accused were allegedly involved in money laundering in Pakistan as well as other nations, according to the police investigation. Three individuals, identified as Inamullah, Muhammad Irfan, and Phillips Ansar, were taken into custody when local police carried out a raid at a tea hotel in Federal B Area Block 15 close to the UBL Sports Complex. According to the article, Inamullah is the group’s principal IT expert.
According to reports, these three were using a variety of phoney IDs to con innocent people into disclosing their personal information and bank account information. The money would then be transferred to their own accounts after they logged into the accounts that had been stolen. To give their actions the appearance of legitimacy, they were also employing phoney documents.
According to the police investigation, the con artists utilised this technique to steal thousands of dollars from unwitting victims. During the raid, in addition to the three suspects, the police also found a number of chequebooks, laptops, hard drives, passports, and USB flash drives. A group of 10 con artists were detained earlier this month for committing a related financial crime by Islamabad’s Cyber Crime Circle (CCC). In order to deceive individuals into disclosing their account information, they pretended to be bank workers.
The gang would rob money from compromised accounts while using SIM cards from Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to con others. From one victim, the thieves stole about Rs. 3 million, and they also stole thousands from other victims.
During the operation, the CCC found 5 phones and 25 international SIM cards on them. The Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2021 has been invoked, and additional investigations are currently being conducted.
