Pakistan prepares for smart meter deployment, service providers and project developers to implement smart electricity meters. Technology has overtaken many things now the news is that soon electricity meters will be replaced by SIM CARDS. The electronic meters will be having a sim card inserted. This will end the work of reader boys.
Advanced technology is very important but due to many problems inflicted by the electricity mafia, even after the requests of telecom companies the government has been delaying the implication of technology in this field.
The news headline came as, “Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has completed the bidding documents for the Advanced Metering Infrastructure, which are yet to be approved by the Asian Development Bank.”
The project costs Rs. 30 billion and the funds are given Asian Development Bank. The company aims to install 1.8 million meters in Lahore.
The new system with electricity meters is designed such that It will automatically read the data and send information to the server and this way the electricity bills will be generated.
The work of line men seem to end. The theft of electricity can reduce to a great level and the processes like connecting and disconnecting the electric supply will be handled by the grid-station.
