On Saturday, a mysterious bidder bid $28 million for Jeff Bezos’s seat for the first manned spaceflight of the multi-billion-dollar Blue Origin company next month.

The Amazon founder revealed this week that he and his brother Mark will both sit on the boat. The company’s new Shepard launch vehicle will fly to the edge of space and return on July 20. The Bezos brothers will join the winner of Saturday’s charity auction, whose identity is unknown.

 “The name of the auction winner will be announced within a few weeks after the auction ends, “Blue Origin tweeted after the auction.

“The fourth and final crew member will then be announced, so stay tuned.”

The winning bidder on Saturday defeated about 20 competitors in the auction launched on May 19 and ended with a 10-minute live broadcast frenzy.

The bid on Thursday reached $4.8 million, but it soared in the final live auction, rising by millions of dollars-an an increase of $1.

The proceeds–plus 6% of the auction commission, will be used to create Blue Origin, Club for the Future, which aims to inspire future generations to pursue STEM careers: science, technology, engineering, and take off from the desert of western Texas,  the New Shepard trip will last 10 minutes and four of the passengers will pass between the Earth’s atmosphere and space through the Carmen Line, which marks the recognized boundary.

It was separated from the propeller and stayed at an altitude of more than 100 kilometers for 4 minutes. During this time, the crew on board could experience weightlessness and observe the curvature of the earth.

The thruster automatically landed on a platform 2 miles from the launch site. Earlier this year, it was announced that the space capsule fleet Bezos, who would step down as Amazon’s CEO to devote more time to other activities, will return to the ground.

The three large parachutes decelerated to 1.6 km/h during landing. Projects including Blue Origin have stated that flying into space is a lifelong dream. Blue Origin’s New Shepard has successfully conducted more than a dozen unmanned tests at its facility in the Guadalupe Mountains of Texas.

“We’re ready to fly some astronauts,” said Ariane Cornell, Director of Blue Origin Astronaut and Orbital Sales on Saturday.

The reusable suborbital rocket system is based on the first American Alan Xie to enter space 60 years ago, named after Alan Shepard.

Amazon confirmed the purchase of Souq and PayFort. Amazon is one of the biggest online stores. The authorities confirmed that the news about adding Souq to their assets was hundred percent true. Souq is the biggest e-commerce chain in the Middle East.

Though the authorities avoided revealing the price at which it bought Souq the rumors were still hot that it costed them worth $650 million to $750 million. If these anonymous sources are to be believed the price is not too much for acquiring the biggest e-commerce chain and this is definitely a deal of benefit and not of loss.

The deal has confirmed the fact that Amazon is interested to put its feet in Middle East and wants to expand its business. This deal will allow it to spread wider in Middle East and reach maximum number of customers.

It was not an easy deal. Emaar Malls were looking forward to bag the Souq by bidding a whole $800 million for the e-store.

Dany Farha, the CEO of BECO Capital was of the view that the addition of Souq to Emaar was a good deal.

He said,

“If Souq were to be bought out by a traditional operator like Emaar Malls and gave Souq complete autonomy over strategy, operations etc, letting the techie side of the executive team currently in place to truly shine and flourish.

Emaar would only act as a helping hand to increase supply of product, strengthen supply chain, reinforce the branding and marketing offline in stores across the region, and build out an omni-channel strategy for retailers across the region, whilst supporting it with funding and increasing its capital efficiency, then this would be a fantastic outcome. Amazon has many of these attributes, which also makes it an optimal buyer.”

Dash Ventures’ Managing Director and  Omar J. Sati think that the ball was in their court forever. The deal was for them and no matter how much anyone would have bid they would have won the bid.

He said,

“Clearly, the higher bid from Emaar is better for them at first glance, but the Amazon deal is still unclear. Will they keep management? Will there be sweeteners such as earn-outs? Don’t forget, the biggest advantage Amazon has is the ability to offer share swaps and share incentives in Amazon. In summary,

I think an Emaar deal would be a short-term win for the Souq team, but an Amazon deal would be a more valuable win in the long-term. In either case, it’s a win”.

The deal features a clause where a fintech company under the name of PayFort will be added to Amazon’s assets. The company was initially under the management of Souq.com. After acquiring Souq, PayFort comes under Amazon.

According to the PayFort Managing Director, Omar Soudodi,

“Today as part of Souq Group Inc. we are pleased to officially announce that PayFort International Inc. and its subsidiaries will be acquired by Amazon, through Amazon’s acquisition of the Souq Group. We are excited about the future opportunities that are ahead of us as part of Amazon.”

Amazon.com Inc. is planning to buy a Dubai-based online retailer Souq.com FZ for about $1 billion in a deal.

The news broke out when Middle East e-commerce site initially planned to sell a stake. This could be a mere rumor, but it has shaken the stoke market. Initially the news was about just selling a stake but then the news got expanded declaring that Amazon is interested to buy the whole of it.

A spokesman for Souq.com declined to comment. A representative for Amazon didn’t respond to calls and an e-mail seeking comment.

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. was given the responsibility of finding a buyer for a share of company by Souq.com. It was also heard that the company’s existing investors — Tiger Global Management and South Naspers Ltd. were also planning to sell their holdings some said that they are already in talks with buyers.

Souq.com is online retailer and sells about 1.5 million products to United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, according to its website.

During an interview Chief Executive Officer Ronaldo Mouchawar said, “The Company would be open to selling shares to the public in the future.”

No decisions have been made but as soon we get the news we will share it with all users.
